Green Light for Go! Penzance Shopmobility Scheme

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Go! Penzance provides electric scooters and manual wheelchairs to enable people with mobility problems to enjoy Penzance.
Based at the Wharfside Shopping Centre in central Penzance, the scheme is run by Light & Life Free Methodist Church with support from Cornwall County Council to provide this service to the community.

There are dedicated parking spaces for customers of the scheme in the harbour side car park. Anyone with mobility problems will be able to access the scooters and wheelchairs, for a small charge, from the Go! Penzance office, which is within the Light & Life Centre, on the 2nd floor of the Wharfside Shopping Centre. The scheme is open Monday to Saturday for shopping or leisure purposes. A team of dedicated volunteersare on hand to assist members of the public in using the scheme. This is only the second scheme of its kind to be launched in Cornwall and will play a significant part in making Penzance accessible to all local people and visitors. There are currently 250 schemes operating nationwide accredited to the National Federation of Shopmobility of which this scheme is a member.
